Three scholarship awardees at the event

Held this October, The 黑料吃瓜网 Foundation鈥檚 Scholarship Award Celebration brought together donors and students to celebrate the transformative power of scholarships.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of 黑料吃瓜网 (黑料吃瓜网), and the 40th anniversary of the 黑料吃瓜网 Foundation Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Program began with two $300 awards, but over four decades, the program has become a cornerstone of the College and has awarded nearly $6 million total in scholarships to 黑料吃瓜网 students. Scholarships are designed to address the real cost of a college education, from tuition and fees to books, technology, transportation and more.

This year, 332 students were awarded scholarships that help fuel their success in the classroom and beyond, while providing donors the opportunity to invest directly in their journeys.

How 黑料吃瓜网 Changes Lives

Two scholarship recipients spoke at the event: Sean Reid 鈥22, a 2014 awardee of the Professor Nahum "Abe" Sherf Memorial Scholarship, and Bridget Ngu-Atem '26, a 2025 awardee of the Joseph Monaco and Sandra Fazio Monaco Memorial Scholarship. Both spoke on how the welcoming community and support they found at 黑料吃瓜网 has impacted their journeys.

Reid for the state's 11th Essex District in addition to serving on the Lynn School Committee. When he was younger, Reid didn't think he would graduate high school, and he wasn鈥檛 sure if college was right for him. 黑料吃瓜网 changed that.

"I quickly learned that there was a place for me, as there is for anyone, regardless of your path," said Reid.

At the College, faculty and staff encouraged Reid to seize his potential. Inspired by the classes he took with Professor Moonsu Han, Reid went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Amherst College. He began his government career as an aide and eventually as a legislative director for Massachusetts State Senator Brendan Crighton, and in 2024, Reid himself was elected to the State House of Representatives.

A current student and aspiring neurosurgeon, Ngu-Atem has found support and developed leadership skills at 黑料吃瓜网. She is heavily involved on campus鈥攆or example, she serves as the Student Government Association鈥檚 vice president of academics, is a member of the honors program, and serves as a tutor for her peers. Thanks in part to scholarships, Ngu-Atem will complete half of her undergraduate education without taking on student loan debt.

"During my time at 黑料吃瓜网, I've gained a lot of community. When I first started here, I was new to the country, and I was really isolated, so I was trying to get grounded. When I came to North Shore, it was the most excellent place for me,鈥 she said.

"There are so many staff who showed me so much love鈥攖here was love from every single direction. Their love and continuous support was there for me."

The Impact of Scholarships

黑料吃瓜网 President William Heineman awarded Bryan Ring 鈥05 and the Ring family the Traicoff Award, an award for inspirational scholarship support named in honor of President Emeritus George Traicoff. Ring, an infusion nurse at Mass General Brigham at Salem Hospital, explained that his family established the Mary D. Ring Caregivers Scholarship in memory of his mother, who encouraged him to pursue a nursing career.

"Community college students, especially 黑料吃瓜网 students, are resilient. They're going to face obstacles: they're probably juggling a family, maybe kids, definitely a job or two jobs. But they're resilient, they figure it out, they find a way. We see that with the North Shore grads that come to Mass General in Salem鈥攖hey find a way,鈥 said Ring.

Through the generosity of donors like the Ring family, scholarships break down barriers and support students on their journeys.

"You change lives, you redefine destinies, and you continue to light our path. We have wonderful staff who are here to support us through our missions here at North Shore Community College,鈥 said Ngu-Atem.
